She's Dating the Gangster

She’s Dating the Gangster is a 2014 Filipino teen romantic comedy-drama film based on the best Pop Fiction book of the same name originally published on CandyMag.com’s Teen Talk section and it was popularized on Wattpad by Bianca Bernardino. The film is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

Synopsis

It all started when 17-year-old Athena Dizon unwittingly plays a trick on resident heartthrob and bad boy, Kenji de los Reyes. All of a sudden, she finds herself pretending-unwillingly at that-to be his girlfriend to make his ex jealous. Now, not only does she have to deal with dirty looks from the girls in school who want Kenji for themselves, but her supposed boyfriend is getting on her nerves. He’s hotheaded, never seems to agree with her on anything-and everything about him screams gangster.

International Screenings & Domestic Box Office

Due to the film’s huge success, it was screened internationally in selected countries like United States, Canada, Australia, and United Arab Emirates.The film grossed $222,000 after 3 days of showing in North America[8] and $111,000 more after 10 days for a total of $333,000. The total gross, from the 2-week US and 3-week Canada screenings as well as the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore screenings, to due has yet to be released by the Star Cinema.

According to Star Cinema’s advertising manager Mico del Rosario, the film gathered PHP 15 million (US$340,000) on its first day of showing. This was in spite of a powerful typhoon, Glenda, that hit the country that day that caused power outages across the country and delayed the opening of mall cinemas. By August 3, 2014, the film distributor announced that the film grossed an estimated PHP 270 Million in a little less than 3 weeks. At the She’s Dating the Gangster Thanksgiving Party on August 7, 2014, ABS-CBN’s Malou Santos officially announced that the film had earned over PHP 310 million in domestic gross with five remaining screening days left.
